The jobless rate in Japan, at 5.2% in May, may worsen yet. The Economic Planning Association recently conducted a survey on 40 economists this summer, with 36 responses tallied so far. Predictions indicate that the unemployment rate this fall, from October to December, will increase to 5.56%.
If this prediction indeed comes true, it will beat the worst unemployment rate the country has known, which was 5.5% in April 2003. Several economists even went as far as predicting a 6% rate. (more…)
Though many hotels have their own honeymoon or ”fantasy suites,” there are actual hotels in many countries dedicated to providing guests with very short stays–for as little as an hour or two–explicitly for a romantic rendezvous.
Japan is particularly known for its “love hotels,” as the first of them were developed in Tokyo following World War II. Since then, the business has flourished, and continues to be a successful industry today. Some say that it even generates $40 billion annually. (more…)

Though the hybrid car has been found to have many benefits over older models that depend fully on gasoline to operate, the Japanese transport ministry has discovered one drawback to the vehicles: they are deceptively quiet.
While this may be a blessing when teenagers go out for a joy ride at two in the morning, it can be quite the opposite when you’re a pedestrian looking out for your own safety. (more…)
